The Edit menu contains the Preferences menu option that producers the preferences dialog box. With this dialog various preferences are set. The preferences are retained when stopping the program and restored when restarting the program.

The preference options are grouped into four categories:
| 1. | Preferences related to the chord calculator reversible keys |
See Reversible Keys.
| 2. | Preference for clearing the chord calculator after adding chords to the chord table |

In Chords Mode and Melody mode, this preference setting determines whether to reset the calculator and clear the keyboard after adding a chord to the chord table. See Adding Chords to the Chord Table.
| 3. | Preference for whether table mode commands affect the chords in the chord table |

In Table mode, operations such as INV, 8ve, and open and close voice affect the chord in the chord table or just the chord in the keyboard. See for example Chord Inversion.
| 4. | Preference for printing |
a) Printing Optional Notes.

You may want to skip printing optional chord notes to simplify learning difficult songs. See What Are Optional Notes.
b) Printing Tied Notes

You may want to skip printing "chords" consisting of only a tied melody note (i.e. when the only selected note in the chord is the tied melody note). Technically such notes should not be played as separate notes so printing them may not contribute to your learning the song. See Special Case: Ties.
