To begin receiving midi messages start playing on the piano keyboard or have the instrument play demo midi songs.

There is a multitude of midi messages that the instrument sends to your computer.

While receiving midi messages FastChords displays only three types of messages:

1.note ON
2.note OFF
3.system exclusive

The data is displayed in raw format just to let you know messages are being received.  Later, when recording messages, it will be displayed in interpreted format for clarity.   interpreted format shows the musical note and keyboard octave position.  See Recording

System exclusive messages are unique to your midi instrument and are produced when you do something other than playing the keyboard, for example when changing voices.

System exclusive messages are not displayed or captured when recording.  They are only shown when the record button is in started state to signal that midi messages are being received.
