Elements of the Chord Table

Top  Previous  Next

The Chord Table displays all the chords (and melody notes) of a song.

A maximum of five chords are displayed at a time, one of them is the current chord.   It is easy to tell which because it has a red title bar:

1395_1

The current chord is important because all the single chord operations -- such as Get, Invert, Optimize -- apply to it.

Clicking on the chord title bar of any of the visible chords makes it the current chord.  Also, if the chord that is the current chord is scrolled off  the screen, another visible chord becomes the current chord.

Speaking musically, a chord is two or more notes played concurrently.  But in FastChords, a chord is the state of the keyboard, whether or not any note is played.

Here are some comments about elements of the chord table:

a chord in the chord table can be empty.
a chord in the chord table can have just one note.
there are two types of chord notes:  1) chord notes proper and 2) melody notes (shown with a green dot).
it is possible to display only chord notes, or only melody notes.  See Showing Only Chords.
the title bar of the chord table displays the song name and the number of chords.
chord title bars have 6 regions:

1. the sequential number of the chord in the chord table.

2. the name of the chord (if any).

3. the comment or lyric (if any), see Chord Comment.

4. the signature key of the chord, see Chord Signature Key.

5. the optimization score, see Chord Optimization.

6. the selection indicator, see Selecting a Range of Chords.
