Chord Transposition refers to the process of shifting a chord up or down the keyboard to a new signature key, or by a certain number of half steps.

A half step is the distance from one keyboard key to the next including black notes:

Transposition is usually applied to the entire song.  But FastChords allows transposing a single chord as well as a range of chords.

There are two basic types of transpose operations:  Transpose by Key and Transpose by Half Steps.

When chords are transposed they change names.  Transposition is the only program operation that changes the root of chords, hence the chord name change.

Transposition affects both chords and melody notes.
