Here is a typical chord symbol with its different components underscored with the color of the region whose buttons apply (for more on this see About Chord Symbols):

The buttons for entering chord symbols are organized as follow:

The only non "fuzzy" buttons when entering a new chord.
Notice the two red buttons sharp (#) and flat ( ) in this group are only for qualifying the root. The black sharp and flat buttons at the bottom of the calculator are used for qualifying alterations. These red and black buttons are never visible at the same time.

Major (Ma/MAJ), minor (m/min), augmented (+/aug) and diminished (o/dim).
These are Reversible Keys in the sense that you can change the face of the button.

Alterations sometimes appear in parenthesis in printed music, sometimes not. There is only one parenthesis button, the program knows which (the open or close parenthesis) applies. The black slash button is not for identifying the bass, instead it is for entering chords such as C6/9.

The red slash button, used for identifying the bass when the bass is not the result of a chord inversion. See Inverting Chords and Slash Chords

the root and the modifier imply a three-note chord or triad, the extensions imply more notes. See About Chord Symbols.

The rest of the buttons are not used for entering chord symbols, they are used for:

Mode Switch button. Left click on it to switch to the indicated mode. Right click to change the destination.

Adds the chord to the chord table. A "chord" is the current keyboard state. See Adding Chords to the Chord Table.

Switches to the Player mode.

Turns sound ON/OFF, see Turning Sound On and Off.

Displays the chord name of the chord in the keyboard. If the state of the keyboard is not a "known" chord, then displays blank.

Backup button, removes the last chord symbol entered.
