Here is a typical song fragment in "lead sheet" music style  as found in fake books.  The chord symbols are shown in red above the melody line:
The first step when entering songs in FastChords is to enter the melody line ignoring rhythmic values, as though the melody line was simply this:

  Use the left mouse button to temporarily  select the corresponding keyboard key.  The note is unselected as soon as the button is released.

 

  Use the right mouse button to select the corresponding keyboard key.  To release it, click on it with the left mouse button.

To sharpen or flatten a selected note, use these buttons:


 

Melody notes can also be entered directly on the piano keyboard displayed on the screen.  See the manual for this.

Rhythmic values -- the duration of notes -- are entered in the Player using the following buttons:
 

1) Use the left 1454_3 and 1454_4 right arrows to select the desired rhythm.

 

2) If the note is a tie, click the 1450_1 button.

 

3) If the note is part of a triplet, click the 1450_2 button.
 

Rhythmic values can also be recorded directly using the record button.
 


Start playing the song with either of the play buttons.

either continuously 1441_1 or in a loop  1441_2
 

 

Use the left 1454_3 and 1454_4 right tempo buttons to adjust the tempo.  The result is displayed next to the buttons.  The song will pick up speed or slow down depending on what you do.
