
Upon entering the Midi mode, and while working with midi, the Midi Message Window is displayed on the screen.
The window shows the midi messages saved in memory. These would be played when selecting the play function.
If there is no midi data, the message
"no midi data in memory" will be displayed.
To hide / show this window use the
"show midi" button.


Every line represents a midi message, the information displayed is:
1. message number
2. message type (note ON or note OFF)
3. musical note
4. keyboard octave position
5. midi message time, in milliseconds, (normalized to start at zero).
There is a multitude of midi messages that the instrument sends to your computer.
While receiving midi messages FastChords displays only three types of messages:
1. note ON
2. note OFF
3. system exclusive
The data is displayed in raw format just to let you know messages are being received. Later, when recording messages, it will be displayed in interpreted format for clarity. interpreted format shows the musical note and keyboard octave position.
System exclusive messages are unique to your midi instrument and are produced when you do something other than playing the keyboard, for example when changing voices.
System exclusive messages are not displayed or captured when recording. They are only shown when the record button is in started state to signal that midi messages are being received.

To begin recording midi messages start playing on the keyboard or have the instrument play demo midi songs.
2) Start the device by clicking on the record button once.

Clicking on any midi message shows on the keyboard which keys (musical notes) would be sounding at that point of time. For the above example, when the 6th note play, a Dm7 chord is produced:

To receive midi messages from the instrument, follow these steps:
1) Select the midi IN device.
